From the flying bridge of a yacht named the Princess Rebecca, with a brilliant sunrise at his back, charismatic criminal defense attorney Jake Olson hears gunshots and sees a speedboat racing away from an idle floatplane. He and his band of brothers give chase and capture the small craft. In it are bags of marijuana and a dead man. They take the weed, scuttle the boat with the body in it, then go back to the floatplane and pull a wounded man from the water. Before long, Jake and the guys are hauling in marijuana, delivering it to their buyer and reaping the rewards. They’re all happy and flush with cash until Jake goes missing.

Boonie Rats is a throwback to the great Men's Adventure paperback originals of the `70s and `80s. That said, the storytelling is contemporary, the plot well developed, and the weapons, tactics, and feel for war and it's long term effects are authentically portrayed. Ellingsen's writing style is assured and accessible, driving the story along without any unnecessary flashiness or padding. A solid, enjoyable read. Can't wait to get on to the sequel.Product details

In the biker genre ,this attempt fails.
Trying to make good guys bad guys and good again, has no resemblance to anything in the mc culture.
The religious ending was totally bizarre and pointless.
enjoyable story
You have to get through the start..but once you dod the book captures you if you let it..found myself buying the series within a few days of purchase of this book.

I made it through this book but it was kinda lame. There were enough twists to keep me reading...but I had to shake my head now and then. The concept of the story is an interesting one...but it was really a stretch to get close enough to get into the story and plot and how "likely" it really was....
This is the first book i have read by Bill Ellingsen, but it will not be the last. From the very beginning, Ibecame intrigued with the characters and couldn't put the book down . Just when you think you have the plot figured out , it takes a turn and makes you think hmm didn't see that coming.
I finished the book - glad to see "Jake" is back as a "good" guy and - hopefully he is through with having a run-in with the law. I consider the first book more as an introduction getting to know the characters and their background and now I am ready for lots of "adventures" starting with the ranch - I am wondering how the bear/motorcycle lightning strike will tie into the 2nd book - I am wondering if the murder will ever "show up again" in the series - I am wondering how the relationships will work out - I feel the first book was the setting for "lots of stories." Hoping there will be some "road" trips with the group to some interesting places, etc. I have really enjoyed reading the book and trying to tie it into the local area - for example, when the truck driver lost his brakes going down Piedmont - I "really" pictured the event going on right down to all the curves in the road, etc.
